Upper Dir

Upper Dir District is located in the Malakand Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. The district headquarters is in the town of Dir, which serves as the administrative center. The Badogai Pass connects Upper Dir to the Utror area, providing access through the mountainous terrain. At the time of Pakistan's independence, Dir was a princely state ruled by Nawab Shah Jehan Khan. The princely state was merged with Pakistan in 1969, and it was later officially declared as a district in 1970. In 1996, the original Dir District was split into two administrative districts: Upper Dir and Lower Dir. This division was made to facilitate better governance and administrative efficiency.
