The gurdwara is also famous because it is close to the border between India and Pakistan. From the Indian side of the border, you can see the shrine. From the Indian side of the border, a large number of Sikhs gather on bluffs to perform darshan or a holy look at the site. Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan opened the Kartarpur Corridor on November 9, 2019, which was the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and just a few days before Guru Nanak's 550th birthday. This historic event was the first time that Indian Sikh pilgrims could go to the site in Pakistan without a visa. It is also said to be the world's biggest gurdwara.
