Attock

Attock is formerly known as Campbellpur is a city founded during the British era located in the north of Pakistan's Punjab Province, not far from the country's capital Islamabad. It is the headquarters of the Attock District and is the 61st largest city in Pakistan by population. The city was founded in 1908 several miles southeast of the older city of Attock Khurd, which had been established by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in the 16th century, and was initially named in honour of Sir Colin Campbell.

Attock has a long and illustrious history. The famed Attock Fort Complex was constructed in 1581 by Emperor Akbar the Great, Babar's grandson, who understood the strategic importance of the place. The fall of the Mughal Empire in the 18th century saw the rise of Durrani Afghans and Sikhs in Punjab to the West. Plateaus, hills, and dissected plains make up the majority of the district. The district is bordered on both sides by the Indus River. Following Haripur, the Haro River flows through the tehsil of Attock, passing through a flood plain with fertile land. The average annual rainfall in the area is 783 mm.

The majority of Attock's residents are middle-class. Both men and women work in fields all day to meet their basic needs.
