Narowal

Narowal is a city located on the western bank of river Ravi in the northeast of the province of Punjab, Pakistan. It is the 94th largest city in Pakistan. The economy is largely agriculture-based but Football production and handicrafts industries also exist.

Narowal, around 50 kilometers from Indian-controlled Kashmir, is known for its rice cultivation, particularly for the scent of its rice. The settlement of Narowal was created 900 years ago, according to folklore, by Baba Naro Bajwa. Because it is home to several university campuses, Narowal is also known as the “House of Knowledge”. And the universities include the University of Engineering and Technology Narowal Campus, the University College of Veterinary and Animal sciences Narowal Campus, and the University of Narowal. Famous poet, intellectual, and Lenin Prize recipient Faiz Ahmed Faiz stand tall among many of the city's leading figures. A famous Sikh Temple, Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur lies in the East of Narowal.

Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur

Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, also called Kartarpur Sahib, is a gurdwara in Kartarpur, located in Shakargarh, Narowal District, in the Punjab province of Pakistan.

The gurdwara is also famous because it is close to the border between India and Pakistan. From the Indian side of the border, you can see the shrine. From the Indian side of the border, a large number of Sikhs gather on bluffs to perform darshan or a holy look at the site. Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan opened the Kartarpur Corridor on November 9, 2019, which was the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and just a few days before Guru Nanak's 550th birthday. This historic event was the first time that Indian Sikh pilgrims could go to the site in Pakistan without a visa. It is also said to be the world's biggest gurdwara.

The population of Narowal is made up of a mix of ethnic groups, with Punjabis accounting for about 80% of the population, those who moved from India to Pakistan after the partition (known as muhajirs in Pakistan) comprising 19%, and Pathans and other minor ethnic groups comprising for 1%. Punjabi is the most widely spoken language, followed by Urdu. In offices and educational institutions, English is widely used. Due to the region's missionary Sufi Saints, the populace is mostly Muslim. Islam is the main religion (98%), Christians (1.5%), and Sikhs and Hindus (approximately 5%).

The people are simple, and the vast majority of the population lives in villages. The Gujjars, Jatts, and Rajputs are the three major castes here. Due to the lack of agricultural resources in the area, most residents work in professions other than farming. People can be classified into two groups: those who live in cities and those who live in rural regions. Agriculturists, soldiers, and workers dominated the rural population. Male members of the household go to work in the morning, while youngsters go to school. Female members of the household remain at home to look after the home. There are, obviously, women who work. Doctors and teachers are the most common professions among working women. People from this region have migrated to the Middle East and the United Kingdom to make a good living. These individuals are a major source of remittances from abroad and contribute to the country's foreign exchange.
