Culture and history

Things to do - Gwadar

According to history, Gwadar was a small to medium-sized town with an artisanal fishing sector. Gwadar's geography and history have resulted in a diverse culture. Due to Omani control and the close vicinity to Arab countries, Gwadar has a considerable Arab impact. People descended from African slaves who went through town feel the impact of the Omani slave trade. Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Parsis, Qadianis, and other small Islamic sects all reside in the area, which has a remarkable religious variety. The Zikri sect, which claims to be followed by half of Gwadar's population, is one of the most influential religious sects.

Bochi and Urdu are the two most widely spoken languages. Marriage practices in the Gwadar district differ greatly from those in other parts of Balochistan. Unlike in other regions of Balochistan, the bride owns the lab (bride price) or haq-mehr (dower) obtained in a marriage contract, and she has complete control over how she dispenses or spends it. In Gwadar, Haq Mehr is more common, and the bride's parents do not get any money from the groom's parents. Gwadar has a literacy rate of about 25%. According to Alif Ailaan's report Pakistan District Education Rankings, Gwadar is placed 61st in the country, with a 59.47 education score and a 62.65 learning score. Gwadar has a low enrollment rate due to the district's limited number of schools. As we progress through the grades, the number of students drops.
